It has been a great year and uplifting final day of 2010 for those of us lucky enough to work at Dapto High School. Last year, we ended our year on a professional high at the salubrious Nan Tien Temple. The staff, anecdotally and via a SurveyMonkey evaluation, overwhelmingly wanted to make it an annual event.

The morning commenced with tai chi and walks around the beautiful temple grounds. The keynote this year, Maintaining Your Resilience – Grace Under Fire, was given by Joan Kryzik and worked well with the theme of our conference. There was laughter. Much laughter!

Our masseuses worked tirelessly during the keynote to relax delegates.

Workshops included a follow-up to the keynote – more grace under fire, relieving stress with film 101, the (EAP) Employee Assistance Scheme, as well as  financial and personal advice for delegates.

Lunch was healthy and the punch grand. The coffee was exceptional.

Staff vote each year to award their colleagues for professional excellence in a number of categories: teaching & learning, innovation, welfare and community service and the recipients – Tom Massarella, Steve Creenaune, Andrew Smith, Tracey Anderson, John Heininger, Sarah Imber & Michael Wilson – were highly deserving of the professional recognition bestowed on them by their colleagues. Ken Wright was awarded the prestigious Principal’s Award this year for steadfast reliability and organisational nous.

The school recognized that Andrew FitzSimons has steered his first group, from Year 7 to Year 12 (2005-10), as principal. They are a cohort to be proud of.

Have a Merry Christmas, colleagues!

Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories of Dapto High School for me. I loved looking through the photos and seeing happy, peaceful faces. Another year of great teaching and administration efforts. Congratulations to all who received special awards on the day.
