Trey Ratcliff spoke so glowingly about the Nikon 14-24mm wide-angle lens that I lusted after it for two years before managing to buy one for my Nikon D700. The lens is oddly shaped, heavy and one does feel a little nervous about transporting it while travelling. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful lens, especially for landscape photography.

Ratcliff, as a HDR guru, rejects using filters (too old school) but after trying out the Lee Seven5 filters with my X100s, it seemed obvious that the SW-150 system with this great lens, on my D700, would likely assist in the production of some nice landscape shots while walking in Cumbria and Spain.

Here is my best of the first attempts, using the ND 0.6 Hard Grad and ND 0.6 Standard filters, with a little tweaking in Lightroom using a plugin.

The gear is a little awkward to carry, as is the lens, but the impact of such a wide angle shot is eye-catching. Watch this brief video to get the idea about how the SW-150 filter holderdesigned specifically to fit the Nikon 14-24mm lens, works:

What experiences and shots do you have to share about this lens or filter system?
