My Twitter buddy @dimac4,  otherwise known as Dianne McKenzie, kindly invited me to visit her school, Discovery College today. I love checking out schools and this was a good opportunity, while we are staying in Hong Kong, on our return from Europe.

I love quotes and walking into this school of 1000 students noticed:

Dianne’s school is only three years old and is very shiny, with excellent facilities. Every class I popped into seemed filled with students using their Mac laptops. However, I kept coming back to that Picasso quote in a range of ways. There is an obvious focus given to the visual and performing arts at the school.

The use of space at the school is interesting. Here’s a great way, especially considering the school will shortly cater for the full-range of student age groups, to use a corridor, make a climbing wall.

I chatted with a teacher about her art program and street art/graffiti is particularly motivating to the current crop of students. They have been exposed to Banksy’s work, which would inspire any artist and are enthusiastically decorating the school with their creations.

It was only a short visit but my impressions of the school were entirely positive. It looks like a great space to live and learn. Thanks Dianne!
