The department supports its employees’ participation in social media online applications such as social networking sites, wikis, blogs, microblogs, video and audio sharing sites and message boards that allow people to easily publish, share and discuss content.
The above quote is the opening statement in the new Social Media Policy released by my employer, the NSW Department of Education of Training (recently renamed the Department of Education and Community).
It is an excellent, progressive policy, in tune with Our Times.
The media has focused on the unblocking of facebook and twitter but the longer term policy direction is much more important than just these popular social networking sites being made available. Edubloggers are posting about this news too.
The future of learning is the legacy of intelligent educational and public policy.
We need more good policy!
